Most Dangerous Cities in the US: A dangerous place is defined by the fact that there is a higher percentage of you likely getting harmed or hurt in a particular location. A place that has recorded an increased number of violent crimes such as murder, homicide, rape, and assault, along with non-violent crimes like theft, robbery, and arson. Many such places on our planet are infamous for being dangerous.

1. St Louis, Missouri

The crime rate in St. Louis considers the crime happening both in the city of St. Louis & in the Greater St.Louis area. As calculated by the index crime rate, corruption in the town increased between the 1960s and the 1990s, following a drop in crime rates until 2014.

2) Jackson, Mississippi

The rate of violent crime in Jackson is 733 violent crimes per 100,000 people, which is double the national average & triple the Mississippi average.

3) Detroit, Michigan

With the third-highest rate of murder compared to the major cities in the United States, after Baltimore and St. Louis. The number of robberies declined by 67% in Detroit between 1985 & 2014, while the aggravated assaults increased. On the whole, the crime rate has decreased significantly. In the last few years, the downtown area of Detroit has seen a noticeable drop in crime, while crime remains high in most of the city & has a substantial impact on daily life.

4) New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans recorded 121 murders, putting the city at number four in the top homicide rates in the US. The number is still the lowest homicide rate for New Orleans since 1971. Violent crimes of other nature experienced a drop from previous years in 2018.

5) Baltimore, Maryland

Baltimore, Maryland, is known for its notoriously high crime rate, which ranks the city above the national average. In 2015, there was a spike in violent crimes after the demise of Freddie Gray. Three hundred forty-eight homicides were recorded in the city in 2019.

6) Memphis, Tennessee

Memphis stood on rank eleven for violent crimes, recorded for major cities around the US in 2014. The city of Memphis led the nation when it came to violent crimes in 2006. Memphis was second in rank for the most dangerous city in the years 2001, 2005 & 2007.

Violent crime was at its lowest in Memphis for over a decade in 2004, and that decline in due time was reversed. Memphis maintained the top slot for several violent crimes in America in 2006. According to the statistics from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, violent crime decreased by 6.4% in Memphis in 2014, and a decrease in non-violent crimes by 16.3%.  

7) Cleveland, Ohio

With a rate of 58 per one thousand residents, Cleveland tops with the highest crime rate in America compared to the smallest town to the largest cities. A person’s chance of falling victim to either property or violent crime is one in 17. Cleveland has recorded the most violent crime statistics, including homicides & shootings.

8) Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Over the last few years, there has been a rise in violent crimes in the Baton Rouge area.

9) Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City is rather dangerous, even compared to other cities in America. In 2020 the city reported 7,919 violent crimes & had a violent crime rate of 1,558.58 per 100,000 people.

10) Shreveport, Louisiana

Shreveport is not the safest city, with a crime & property rate higher than the national & state average. There is a lot of poverty, which generally means a higher crime rate.
